ALEK POPOV
The “Prozart” award that is awarded by the International Literature Festival “PRO-ZA Balkan” to a prominent author for his/her contribution to the development of the literature on the Balkans for 2019 goes to the contemporary Bulgarian writer, Alek Popov, as it was unanimously decided by the Board of the Festival.
Alek Popov is a well known person to the Balkans and global audience by his novel “Mission London” which was also used as a basis for making one of the most seen Balkan movies.
He has been active on the Balkan literature stage for many years, appreciated as such, and winner of a number of awards for his works.
In addition to the above-mentioned novel, he also created another wisely written and hilarious piece: “The Palaveevi Siters” which is about to be published in Macedonian language as well.
His expressive sense of humor, the irony which intertwines the refined and folklore spirit, and his extraordinary sense for fabula, are naturally related to another big author in the Bulgarian literature – Aleko Konstantinov, the author of “Baj Ganjo”.
That unity of humor and intellect in Alek Popov creates the most convincing representative in the contemporary Bulgarian literature.
Alek Popov is also an excellent author of short stories. His stories included in “Mrsni Snishta” and “Nivo za Naprednati” are part of many national and international anthologies of short stories.
It is our honor to award this year’s award “Prozart” to one of the most exceptional story tellers in the contemporary literature on the Balkans.
